Reeds Solicitors Launches Service for Court of Protection in Bristol

Leading national law firm Reeds Solicitors LLP (Reeds) has launched a Court of Protection service from its Bristol office.

The Court of Protection team will be led by the firm’s head of Court of Protection and partner Sarah Griffiths-Jones who is currently based in Cardiff.  Sarah will split her time between the Cardiff & Bristol branches, with Solicitor Camille Ivinson and trainee Natasha Perry (nee Lukies) transferring to Bristol full time. The team join the successful crime & family departments in Bristol in 4 York Court.

Reeds’ Court of Protection practice is made up of a team of eight legal specialists who represent some of the most vulnerable members of society and advise on all aspects of mental capacity law. The firm’s court of protection, health, and welfare services solicitors advise clients on issues including health and welfare proceedings; challenges to the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS); mental capacity decisions, assessments, and challenges; safeguarding issues; and medical treatment disputes.  In addition, the firm offers offers advice and assistance in respect of court of protection deputyship applications, which allows another to act as a lay deputy on behalf of someone who lacks the mental capacity to manage their property and financial affairs.

Head of court of protection, Sarah Griffiths-Jones, commented on the practice’s expansion into Bristol:

“I am completely overwhelmed at the speed in which the practice is growing.  We launched the service in 2019 in Cardiff with a team of just two; and today we are opening our doors in Bristol with a combined team of 8.  To more than double in a year, particularly during the unprecedented pandemic, has been one of our proudest achievements – the team have been superb throughout and we cannot wait to get going in Bristol and to see where we end up next.”

Reeds’ managing partner Jan Matthews, added:

“At a time when many firms and businesses have been struggling to keep the doors open due to the intense pressure of the pandemic, we could not be prouder of Sarah and her team.  It is a testament to Sarah’s drive and focus that she has managed to build this team under such circumstances, and to her team that they have gone from one success to another since the day they started. A team shortlisted for awards in Cardiff will now bring the same high standards of quality and care to Bristol.”
