Jamie Nelson is a Consultant Solicitor, in our Mental Health department, based in our Manchester office. Jamie assists patients detained under the Mental Health Act in hospital to appeal to the First tier Tribunal (Mental Health). He has been a member of the Law Society’s Mental Health Accreditation Scheme for many years, obtaining membership before it became compulsory to do so.

Jamie Nelson joined Reeds in 2020 having qualified as a solicitor in 2006. Initially, Jamie worked as Supervisor to other mental health lawyers and then, of the past 10 years, has been a consultant in law firms across the country, ranging in size from high street practices to national Legal 500 firms. Since 2019 Jamie has carried out the voluntary role of sitting as an Associate Hospital Manager in a number of units reviewing the detention of patients and hearing their appeals against detention. Alongside his work as a Solicitor and Hospital Manager, Jamie is a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Law teaching and assessing both under-graduates and post-graduates in a variety of subjects.

With Jamie’s laid-back nature and ability to listen to his client’s needs he is able to ensure they feel their concerns are being listened to. He works to resolve cases as amicably as possible whilst being sensitive to the existing clinical relationships which may be involved in the case.
