Selma is a paralegal in the Crime team at our City of London Office.  She joined Reeds in 2018 having attained a First Class Honours degree in Law with Psychology at University, and having subsequently gained experience in a London criminal defence firm, where she was responsible for managing and preparing her own case load of both Magistrates’ and Crown Court cases from the point of charge through to the conclusion of proceedings.

In her current role at Reeds, Selma works closely with Team Leaders Abigail Ashford and Mark Abbott, and under their supervision, assists in the preparation of often complex cases both in the Magistrates’ and Crown Court; including serious and often high profile matters of rape, attempted murder, complex fraud and terrorism offences.

The varied nature of her role sees her regularly meeting with clients to obtain instructions on evidence, and ensuring that any client queries are dealt with efficiently and often most importantly, with discretion and empathy.  Selma is proactive and assists in taking appropriate action where required such as speaking with potential witnesses, taking and drafting witness statements, facilitating the instruction of experts when required, and generally liaising with Counsel throughout to maintain high standards and thorough case preparation throughout.  She is adept at drafting legal documents such as Defence Statements, applications for bail and applications to exclude evidence, such as bad character, and she liaises with the Courts and Prosecution where necessary, consistently ensuring that all correspondence is dealt with in a timely manner, and that compliance with Court directions is achieved.

Dedicated and passionate, Selma genuinely strives to achieve the best result possible for all our clients.  She has a natural ability to be able to communicate effectively and is able to assist in explaining complex legal issues to clients in simple terms; helping to build a quick rapport so as to try and make clients feel as supported as possible in often very challenging and sensitive situations.  She is highly organised and fully committed to ensuring the provision of an efficient, high quality and responsive service through meticulous case progression.

Selma is competent in conversing with clients in Turkish.
